It’s been a couple of years since I last contributed to this blog. Back then, ROK was still called Presso and I’d not long been back in Australia after living and working in the US. Since then, I’ve done a couple of tours of duty in corporate Melbourne and spent some more time in India and the US.
It has been great tackling some big online projects, but the subject matter has not always been my cup of tea. The time has come for me to get out of the corporate cubicle farm and back to a subject I’m passionate about - coffee! To that end, I’m excited to be back working alongside Greg and Alison at Espresso Unplugged. Being able to work in the digital space, and in the coffee industry, scratches two big itches.
I had a great trip up to Espresso Unplugged HQ (AKA Cromwell Farm) near Byron Bay recently and got some serious quality time with team Cromwell. Our strategy session was awesome, but my memory of the tail end of it is a bit fuzzy. The coffee lab the following morning was much needed.
A highlight of the weekend at HQ was spending time with Greg and Richard at the coffee farm that hosts the Moonshine Coffee roastery. Richard’s a super smart guy with a wealth of knowledge on growing, processing and roasting coffee. He gave me a tour of the processing plant which was super interesting! Unless you’re a jetsetting green buyer who travels to origin every other month, most of us don’t have an opportunity to see that kind of facility. It was a real eye-opener as to what it takes to get from seed to cup.
Now that I’m back where I belong, the first order of business is to bring you some new coffee offerings. We’ve got some awesome new coffee partners on board from around Australia. Keep an eye on the site as we’ll list some delicious new coffee in the coming weeks. You can also follow us on Twitter for updates at @Presso.
What am I drinking today? I’m on a filter kick and have had a couple of delicious brews today. I kicked off with some Colombia Finca Alcatraz and Rwanda Nyarusiza. Happy days.
Be sure to connect with me on Twitter at @Presso for more coffee shenanigans.
